Description: A complete guide to Field Hockey. Field hockey is a team game incorporating fitness -- both speed and endurance -- as well as ball and stick-handling skills. It is a worthwhile activity for people of all ages as it is a non-contact, sportsmanlike game. It is unique and requires great discipline because only one side of the stick, as well as a small, hard ball is used. Field Hockey allows for individual and team play. It includes a wide spectrum of motor skills and encourages cooperation, confidence, leadership and poise while developing awareness and understanding. The Field Hockey handbook is an extension of the Secondary Physical Education Curriculum and Resource Guide (1980). The information included in the handbook is designed to provide the instructor with a comprehensive source of information for the teaching of Field Hockey.
